PADI Scuba Diving:
The Central Pacific Ocean is home to many different reefs, the majority of which are comprised of volcanic rock and corals and lie at depths ranging from 8 to 24 meters. There is an incredible variety of tropical fish that includes Blue Spotted Jacks, several species of Moray Eels, Manta Rays, Spotted Eagle Rays, Puffers, etc.

The temperature of the water varies between 26 and 29 degrees Celsius/Centigrade (79 to 84 degrees Fahrenheit) with a visibility ranging from 10 to 30 meters, depending on the season. There are numerous dive sites all along the coast and specifically at Tortuga Island which is famous for its excellent visibility and large array of fish and corals.

There are several different dive sites at Tortuga Island and in the close vicinity which we visit on our dives. Due to changes in currents and visibility, each day we make a careful selection of which sites we will visit on our dives. Some of the more popular sites include Aquarius, Cañones, Bye Bye Reef, La Chancha, Cocalito and two shipwrecks, Franklin Chang and Caroline Star.

For adventurous people who would like to give scuba diving a try, we offer our Discovery course. This course includes a theory class on Tortuga Island, a short practical course off the beach and then a dive in the open waters along the rock reefs in the pristine waters surrounding Tortuga Island. This course is an excellent opportunity for those who are diving for the first time, or for anyone who is not certified and would like to gain more experience underwater.

LANDTours in Montezuma Costa Rica

Curu Biological Reserve Tours:
Enjoy the biodiversity of wildlife in this private biological reserve.

Horseback Riding Tours:
These tours are led by a Florida girl who came to Costa Rica about 12 years ago. She has been doing horse tours here in Montezuma for about 9 years. Two and a half years ago she moved to San Jose to go to vet school, but she still runs the horses and is in town every chance she gets.

You’ve got to know that these horses are her babies and they come first in every way possible. It is very important to her that they are treated with love and respect. They are really great to ride, easy to handle and a lot of fun.

No experience is needed, and all ages are welcome. There are kid saddles for the little ones. About five and up can ride by themselves. If you have experience, and like a good responsive horse, you will be pleased as well.

You are welcome to gallop the horses and have fun, as long as the horses’ interests are at heart too. We have Spanish or English speaking guides, and you get the owner if you catch her out on break.

The scenery here is breathtaking and wildlife enchanting. Thank you for your interest and hope to see you soon.

Beach Ride:
This ride begins in front of the elementary school at the entrance to the beach in Montezuma. For the beach ride it is very important that we time it with the low tide. The Pacific Ocean is amazing but it is necessary to respect it and make sure the ride is safe for you all and the horses. We time it at low tide so that we have plenty of space on the beach.

On this adventure we ride along the shoreline crossing seven pristine beaches and several creeks. At various places we cross through the jungle where you can see the spectacular flora and fauna in our area. Just a few examples are iguanas, butterflies, white faced and howler monkeys, pizotes and lots of birds.

The destination on this tour is Playa Cocolito where we stop at a beautiful river that runs out into the ocean. You can get off your horse and swim and relax for a while before mounting up for the return home.

This tour is between three and a half to four hours, varying a little with each group.
Wear long pants and shoes, a bathing suit, camera, sun screen and a hat if you’re fair skinned. We supply water and fruit and the majestic Pacific coastline.

If you are lucky enough to be here during a full moon, we take unforgettable tours leaving out about 4:30 and returning with a full moon overhead. All we can say is that it is more beautiful than you can imagine riding along the beach with a full moon coming up over the Pacific Ocean.

Mountain Waterfall Ride:
This ride can go out at anytime of day, although we recommend early in the morning or later in the afternoon for better wildlife sighting and cooler temperatures.

We begin at a farm above Montezuma and ride out on the old Bijagua road to the little pueblo called Florida, passing through rolling farmland and tropical dry forest.

There are glimpses of the Pacific Ocean from the hilltops and plenty of butterflies along the way and monkeys overhead in the trees. If you are lucky you may spot pizotes or anteaters or armadillos as well. The variety of trees and plants is endless and there are so many birds you will be amazed. Flocks of parrots fly chattering overhead, or you may hear a pair of laughing falcons talking to each other.

We cross into a private farm which will lead us to the destination of the Panica Falls. You may stroll along leisurely or lope though the countryside. Just about the time you are ready for a break we stop and get off and walk down to the falls for a refreshing swim. The falls are beautiful and private with a perfect little natural jacuzzi. There is a small fall at the top, five or six little pools and then another larger fall at the bottom.

For the Tarzan in you there is a great rope swing with several different take off points for a little extra added excitement. We stay and swim here for a while, have a little snack and then ride back. We promise you will have an unforgettable time, something you will talk about when you get home.

This ride is between three and four hours, depending how fast you ride and how long you stop for a swim. It is best to wear long pants and shoes, and bring or wear something to swim in.

You may want to bring sunscreen and a hat, and a camera is a must. We provide water and fruit and fun.

Mal País and Santa Teresa:
With their impressive sunset and big surf, Mal País and Santa Teresa ensure an unforgettable day out. Hike, drive or ride horse back along the 7 km hilly track to reach these beach hamlets.

For those who like horseback riding, there are full and half day trips to the waterfalls of Montezuma, Mal Pais and Santa Teresa, and along the trails close to cabo Blanco Nature Reserve where you can spot all types of wildlife and some amazing views of the coast line.

For the serious fisherman the are Sportsfishing operators offering offshore fishing from well equipped boats or maybe you would rather fish the local way with a hand line off the rocks and catch fresh fish for dinner.

Cabo Blanco Absolute Nature Reserve, Montezuma waterfalls and bird watching tours:
We also offer hiking to the world famous Cabo Blanco Absolute Nature Reserve (Reserva Natural Absoluta), the Montezuma waterfalls and bird watching tours. Cabo Blanco is open from 8 am to 4pm, closed Monday and Tuesday. Entrance fee $ 6. There are a choice of trails both easy and strenuous, that traverse the park. One of the trails leads you to a spectacular bay where you can watch the pelicans and rest in the shade before starting the uphill trek back. Owing to its proximity to fresh water rivers, coastline and the nature reserve this area offers a great diversity of bird species. Cabo Blanco is the main nesting site for over 120 different species of birds.
